This is the only season and time of the year wherein one person could see and be in touch with their families and loved ones. Along with those gatherings are mouth-watering dishes and of course some liquor – that, is something that could never be avoided.

This to remind everyone that drunk driving is something that should always be avoided. Here’s a tip. For people who are aware that they gathering that he/she will be attending involve drinking brandy, wine, or any type of liquor, it is important that there is someone that will drive going back, and someone that will not drink at the same time. Even though auto insurance is available, it doesn’t necessarily mean that people have to be reckless and take advantage of it.

Auto insurance policies are there just in case of accidents. Their part is to insure and pay for the damages that the accident has caused, and people’s responsibilities in return are to pay for the monthly premiums and at the same time, stay safe and be responsible enough to know the do’s and don’ts of driving.

For sure, auto insurance companies would cover the costs of the damage that has been done, but there is no reason to drive while drunk. However, it is the driver’s own responsibility and top priority to stay safe at all times. Considering the psychological and physical differences between men and women, comparing their driving styles is unfair. Women, will always remain the fairer sex and thus, they need to take care of a lot many things while driving. Here are a few tips:

I hope everyone would find the above tips useful. Even though the observations are primarily based on behavior of women drivers, however, the solutions can be applied by everyone.

Winter is harsh on motorists and vehicles. To make it a bit easier for drivers to drive through cold conditions, the Automobile Club of Southern California advises motorists to take extra precautions and make sure their vehicles are prepared for cold weather.

Here are some cold-weather driving and car care tips from AAA to keep you safe on the road this season:

Charge! – Cold weather is tough on batteries. At zero degrees Fahrenheit, a car’s battery loses about 60 percent of its strength. At a mild 32 degrees Fahrenheit, a battery is 35 percent weaker. Keeping battery terminals clean helps, but a load test performed by a qualified automotive technician will help determine whether a car’s battery is strong enough for winter starts.

Get a Grip – Make sure your car is equipped with tires that are able to handle your region’s winter weather. Check the tire tread. Good tread allows water to escape from under the tires and increases traction. Keep tires at proper pressure. A chart with the manufacturer’s recommended inflation pressure can be found on the driver side door jamb, inside the glove box, or on the fuel filler flap. For most motorists, all-season tires are adequate. In northern or mountainous regions, switching to snow tires may be needed. Motorists also should observe storm watch advisories that urge the use of snow chains or they may risk being turned around by law enforcement, getting stuck in the snow, or even in a major crash.

See and Be Seen – Danger must be visible to be avoided. Driving with a snow-covered windshield, windows, side-view mirrors or lights invites a crash. Clear windows, mirrors and lights with an ice scraper, brush or spray de-icer. Make certain windshield wipers and defrosters are in good working order and the window washer reservoirs are filled with no-freeze windshield washer fluid. To make sure your vehicle is seen by other drivers, be sure to use your headlights, but not your bright headlights, unless absolutely necessary.

Keep Your Engine Cool – Make certain cooling system anti-freeze is mixed with an equal portion of water for maximum protection.

Key Solution – Frozen door locks can be overcome by carefully heating the end of a key with a match or lighter. A squirt of de-icer spray is another quick method.

Slippery When Wet – In temperatures at or just above 32 degrees, a thin layer of water can cover the ice, causing extremely slippery conditions. The distance needed to stop on ice at 32 degrees is twice as long as at zero degrees. Slow down and use extra caution when passing other vehicles.

Steer Clear – Steering is preferred to braking at speeds above 25 mph because less distance is required to steer around an object than to brake to a stop. Sudden braking often leads to skids. Increase following distance. The extra distance provides a buffer in case of skids.

Air it Out – Don’t let frigid temperatures tempt you into starting your car in a closed garage or idling your engine for long periods with the windows closed. Carbon monoxide, present in exhaust fumes, is almost impossible to detect and can be fatal when breathed in a confined area. Make sure those exhaust parts are in good shape too.

Finish Up – Road salt, slush and grime are especially hard on a car’s finish. To help prevent rust and paint damage, keep cars washed and waxed. A full or self-service car wash makes the job easier when temperatures are low.

The transportation accounts for almost 67% of oil use in US that is mainly in the form of gasoline. There are ample ways available for improving gas mileage.Tips for driving- Idling would give one 0 miles per gallon. The only best way of warming up a vehicle is driving it. There is not more than 30 seconds that are needed for idling in winter days. There is hardly anything simpler that wastes fuel and increases emissions.- The habit of speeding, aggressive driving, rapid acceleration and hard braking is a cause of wasting gas. It is also a cause of lowering one’s highway gas mileage to 33% and city mileage to 5%.- High speeds should always be avoided. A gas mileage above 60 mph drops rapidly.- The car should be cleared out. Extra weight in the car is a cause of decreasing gas mileage by 1% – 2% for every 100 pounds.- The drag can be reduced by placing items inside the car or trunk rather than putting any on the roof racks. A carrier or a roof rack provides additional cargo space and may allow one to buy a smaller car. Although a roof rack that is loaded can decrease the fuel economy by 5% or even more.- The carpooling, telecommuting and public transit can be checked for cutting car mileage and maintenance costs of the vehicle.Car maintenance tipsThe grade of motor oil can be used which is recommended by the car’s manufacturer. In case, if a different motor oil is used, the gasoline mileage can be lowered by 1% to 2%.The tires should be kept properly inflated and aligned. This will improve the gasoline mileage of the car by around 3.3%.Regular engine tune-ups should be done and car maintenance checks must be carried out for avoiding problems related to fuel economy that can be a cause of worn out spark plugs, transmission problems, dragging brakes or low transmission fluid. The blocked air filters should be replaced for improving gas mileage by as much as 10%. This will protect the engine. The everyday jobs should be combined into one trip. A lot of short trips or each one taken from a very start can consume fuel twice as much as one trip covering the same distance at the time when the engine is warm.Tip for long-term savingsOne should consider buying a vehicle which is highly fuel-efficient. A person can save a lot of gas at the gas station by using a fuel-efficient vehicle, an alternative fuel vehicle or a hybrid vehicle. They are also environment friendly and will help in protecting it. The fuel economy guide can be consulted for more tips for buying a new fuel-efficient car or a truck.

Many of us dog owners grow tired of walking Fido round to the local shops, and if he could talk then heâ??d probably tell you he feels the same. The best place to let your dog stretch their legs is when going out for a country walk or a day at the beach. This would mean packing them in the family car and driving somewhere different.

Driving with pets in the car whether itâ??s for a trip to the beach or even a mundane trip to the vets it can be a traumatic time for some pets and so you should make sure that they are secured and safe for the journey. You often see in movies and TV shows people driving along with the passenger window open and their dogâ??s head popping out, I know my dog loves it, must like the wind in his hair!

The problem with this is that in the event of an accident then thereâ??s a good chance that your pet is likely to get injured, much more likely than yourself due to car seats and seatbelts not being made for dogs and cats. This is also likely to be a key factor with any relation to your car insurance, after all a hyperactive dog leaping around your car is bound to distract you and could mean you end up with liability in the event of a crash.

So how can you make sure that you and your pet travel safely? The good news is that there are many products and solutions to stow your pet in your car safely and securely. Itâ??s such a deal breaker for some car owners that some manufacturers are including cages and other options with their cars. Common solutions are the aforementioned cages in the boot mostly found in estate vehicles and minivans for dogs and carry boxes for cats and other smaller animals. These boxes need to be secured too, if the box can fit in the rear foot wells then this is a good place for smaller animals, other wise putting the box on a back seat with the seatbelt around it and trying to wedge it some how between the front seats and the back is a good way to secure carry cases.

There are of course many other inventions that help secure pets during travel such as hammocks and sleeping bag like devices, no matter how weird and wacky these devices are it is still a very serious subject as travelling at 30mph a 60 pound dog can cause an impact of 1,200 pounds. Some car insurance companies offer extended cover for pets, although this is not typically covered as standard, so if you find you travel with your pet a lot, especially on long trips such as going on holidays or for a walk in the country then make sure that your car insurance company know of it, when you are next up for renewal then check with your current provider or check other car insurance quotes to see if they add protection for your pet, in some cases they insure you an extra £500 for pets who travel with you.

So take car eon the road and even though they love sticking their head out the window Iâ??m sure your dog wonâ??t mind waiting during the trip, just make sure you let him run around a bit longer when you get to your destination as a reward for his patience!
